My Blog Is On Page 1 of Google for "HomeBiz Journal"!

http://www.homebizonlinethatworks.com/

Today, I searched for my blog on Google with the keyword phrase of "homebiz journal". Two entries of my blog came back on the first page in the third and fourth place. This is out of a total result of 315,000 entries. Wow! How did it get there? I still can't believe it.

I started blogging perhaps about a month ago, after I joined PlugInProfit. I went through the 30 Day To Success training by Stone Evans and started my blog as recommended. So far, I have submitted 2 articles to EzineArticles (a very slow effort) and 15 entries in my blog. This can't be an aggressive effort. How did I show up on page 1 of Google?

I think my fellow Pipster Doug Gorman has something to do with it. I just had him optimize my blog a few days ago. He put in a number of things:

Techorati
Feedburner
Autopinger
Onlywire
Leadmaverick
RSS feed
Statcounter

The two entries that show up on Google are (1)from my new post in this blog and (2)from Leadmaverick's directory. The entry associated with Leadmaverick is definitely a direct result of Doug's effort.

Leadmaverick also lists my primary web address (http://www.homebizonlinethatworks.com/) on page 2 of Google for the keyword phrase of "homebiz that works" with 92,000 competition. If enough people search for these keywords, my site should get some exposure. At this point, I should really seriously decide on a set of keywords to optimize my primary website and try to write some articles specific to the affiliate programs I'm promoting.

Back to blog optimization, fellow Pipster Doug Gorman really provides speedy service, offers tips and free support. He knows what he is doing and gets you the result he promises. Fellow PIP newbies or anyone interested in optimizing your blog, you can probably benefit from Doug's Blog Optimization Service, which is an affordable $35.

If you happen to read my post, would you let me know if it is informative? I would really appreciate your feedback.:)

The Fastest Way to Learn Your Website's HTML Code

http://ww.homebizonlinethatworks.com/

If you are new to html and have your site built for you, like with PlugInProfit, you may find it a challenge to wade through the code to do small edits by yourself. Going through some basic training is essential. However, the real life html code always seems to be so much more complex than what we see in the basic html tutorials.

Is there a way to learn your site's html code fast? The answer is YES.

I have found this fantastic site that is a real time html editor. In the upper pane, you type in your html code; in the lower pane, the result is shown. To learn your website's html, just type in each line of code and see how the look of your site is constructed line by line. It takes a little time to go through all the lines of the code, but it is well worth it.

I analyzed my website line by line using the above real time editor. I found out why one of the buttons I had copied and pasted in from another site was missing the rounded top and bottom that featured the other buttons on the site. Using this real time editor, I was able to pinpoint exactly what was making up the top and the bottom portion image of the button and fixed the problem. I was also able to isolate the code for a fly-in window on another Pipster's site efficiently and put one up on my own. Check it out here: http://www.homebizonlinethatworks.com/

This site certainly has made my html editing more accurate. With its help, I can see that I will be able to do some web editing that was out of the question before. The best part is that this editor is free. Here is the site: http://htmledit.squarefree.com/

Hope you will find this information helpful.

I Did A Fly-in Capture Form by Myself!

My progress stalled over the past two days. I started to think about overhauling my website to make it more coherent to my effort. I've published two articles with EzineArticles already. There have been a few more clicks to my site now. I really should get my site in order before I push for it to be seen by others.

To overhaul my website, I would have to know something about html. I could always pay for someone else to change it for me. But I tell myself that I should learn to do it anyway.

I went throught the tutorial of basic html at Empowerism. It was a very good series of tutorial. It covers everything on how to design a basic web page. The complete series is by way of visual aid, which is very conducive to learning. The tutorial consists of 34 lessons, each 2-4 minute long.

I learned how to change the font, color, create rows and columns, link buttons to other pages, link to other places on the same page, etc, all of which are basic to get a website going.

Right after the tutorials, I found it easier to understand my own website html. I remembered seeing one of the other pipsters' sites having this very cool fly-in page with the subscription form that was really effective at capturing the visitor's attention. I wanted such a fly-in form on my site as well. However, to have it done for me, I'd have to pay $8-10 for the service. Can I do it by myself?

I found that site with the fly-in form, checked the source code and compared it against my own website's code. I ended up identifying two sections of the code that were different from mine that had intuitive descriptions in them that appeared to relate to a form flying in and bouncing. I copied the two sections of the code into my own page. IT WORKED! This was far easier than I thought. Now I have my own fly-in page capturing the visitor's attention with more flair.

I did have to update a few links from the other site to my own site. I am very happy with this little accomplishment.

Check out my fly-in capture page here.

Stay tuned for more of my progress.

Top 5 Qualities of A Successful Affiliate Marketer

Copyright (c) Ying Hong 2007
http://www.homebizonlinethatworks.com/

What does it take to become a successful affiliate marketer? Many say that everybody can do it? Is it true? Well, yes, up to a point. Based on my personal observations, everybody with the following 5 acquirable qualities have a greater chance than others of success in affiliate marketing.

1. Ability and willingness to read.
Any new affiliate marketer will agree that starting out means dealing with information overload. There is a lot of information to digest. You need to learn how each affiliate program works. This includes, but not limited to, going through the training programs, understanding the compensation plans, making use of the marketing aids, checking out the help resources, as well as continuous research on or off line on related topics. The reading is instructional and usually reader friendly. If you read at all and are motivated enough to learn the material, you should have no problem. If you love reading and read efficiently, then you are at an advantage.

2. Ability to take actions.
Reading is important, but actions are paramount. There will be a lot of tips, secrets, and success recipes offered on the market. You do not have to read all of them to be successful. In fact, the average set of tips or secret strategies will probably work wonders if you just act upon them. One step taken is one step closer to your goal. If you do anything and get anything done in your daily routine, as an average person does, you have it in you to take actions.

3. Ability and willingness to maintain a budget.
Many people want an Internet business for free, which, I hate to break it to you, is not realistic, nor the wisest. Although there are a lot of free resources that you can tap into (and you should definitely tap into them), relying solely on them will greatly limit the potential of the business opportunity you pursue. Setting a budget (and sticking to it, of course), as in any business venture, is necessary; it can enable you to make progress a lot faster. A well considered budget will save you both time and money in the long run. Serious affiliate marketers will eventually get a domain name, a web site and a good hosting service. If you can save $1 a day, which is easy to achieve, you can get all of the aforementioned, plus some amount of advertising, for a year.

4. Ability to see the big picture
The big picture consists of the building of steps upon steps with the final composite translated into financial reward. The consistent accumulation of the effort is what works, not any particular action or any miracle turnkey system. Many people fail because they give up before they build the whole picture, which they probably didn't see in the first place. If you can see the big picture (and you should because you are reading this article), you have an advantage over them as you will know to focus your energy on building the picture instead of being distracted by unrealistic expectations.

5. Ability to realize that success is a habit
Advertisements of affiliate marketing opportunities have made them sound like successes overnight. The truth is, with so many steps to build upon each other, success can hardly happen overnight; there is just not enough time. Success is a habit, in affiliate marketing, in any ventures, and in life. Follow the discipline recommended in your training consistently. Those who persevere will be rewarded of their effort. If you choose to get in the habit, success will come knock on your door. You certainly have the ability to choose.

In conclusion, the above mentioned 5 qualities are major tenets in the work ethics of a successful affiliate marketer. These qualities are not privileges of a few but can be acquired by anyone with a willing mind. Get the right mindset and focus on cultivating the habit of success, you may be pleasantly surprised sooner than you expect.

Buying Leads

I've decided to buy some leads from GetResponse. It is a pay per lead service. At the level I am buying (200 leads), it costs 0.45/lead.

I normally would not resort to buying leads because I don't think they are well targeted. however, I've heard some positive feedback about GetResponse's power leads and decided to give it a try.

My considerations for buying leads are as follows:

1. It will promote the PlugInProfit site a lot more than my own, which is not ready.
2. It saves me some time in getting some traffic and, hopefully, this traffic will translate into something useful.
3. Compare such lead services, GetResponse seems much more worth it than Push Button Leads(PBL). PBL has a monthly fee of 19.95. It rotates your newsletter ad in its e-zine rotator. If yours get enough exposure and that your ad is compelling enough, you get the subscriber. There is no guarantee. For GetResponse, you only pay for the subscribers. The flipside is that it will take however long for them to deliver, and there is no refund. If all the leads are delivered it saves more to get it with GetResponse than with PBL. We will have to wait and see how this purchase goes.

My First Article Is Live on E-ZineArticles!

I received the approval email from EzineArticles.com that my article "Why Should You Consider A Home Based Business Opportunity with Residual Income" was approved and live. I am now an Expert Author with 1 article published. I patted myself on the shoulder for this tiny step forward.

It took EzineArticle less than a week to approve the article. I consider them efficient. My other submission to Isnare.com is still pending.

I've put a "Featured on EzineArticles" icon on my site. Even though this is an outgoing link, I feel encouraged that I've started something, whatever that is. Check out the image of the "Featured on EzineArticles" icon, a tiny milestone for me, at my site.

So far, I still have confidence in the model of PlugInProfit, and I plan to stick with it for a while.

Empowerism - Auto Responder

Empowerism has a designated autoresponder company- Email Aces - to handle all its subscribers' autoresponder services. The use of Email Aces is seamlessly woven into the subscription to Empowerism that a newbie pretty much has to use it.

The way this partnership between Empowerism and Email Aces to work is as follows. Empowerism provides 50 leads for its subscribers every month. It also provides 10 newsletters, including the welcome letter, to prospects. These 10 newsletters can be used by the Empowerism subscribers who receive the 50 leads and who need to start building relationship with them to convert them into subscribers through the means of newsletters. These 10 newsletters can be an easy start for Empowerism newbies.

Therefore, if an Empowerism newbie uses the 50 leads (it only makes sense to do so) every month, he most definitely will use Email Aces' service. The service is not free, but rather inexpensive at $8.95 a month (with first month at $2.95) for the basic level.

In terms of ease of use, I don't find Email Aces the most intuitive. It uses some techinical terms here and there that may be challenging for a complete newbie. However, it is easy enough and serves the purpose, particularly when it's not expensive.

Empowerism - The Program

One of the programs in the PlugInProfit package is Empowerism. I really haven't had any time to learn what it was until now. I found that there were 100 leads sitting in my account. What should I do with them? This started my new excursion of learning about Empowerism.

Empowerism works around an online magazine called Excellence. It is a collection of resources on how to self improve as well as practical tips on internet marketing. An affiliate can earn commission on the sale of this online magazine of recruiting new members. If the member pays his monthly due, which is $24.95 as the first payment and $19.95 every month after that, it is essentially the price of the 13 page online magazine.

The compensation for Empowerism is summarized as follows.

$20 fast cash for any personally sponsored subscriber.
$6 for renewal on each personally sponsored subscriber
$1 for subscribers in your 3x9 matrix every month they renew.

More about the matrix. These members in the matrix do not have to be personally sponsored; they can be spill-overs from your upline. The spillovers are the result of a forced 3x9 matrix where 3 represents the number of people under you directly and 9 represents the depth of levels allowed for the $1 commission scheme. For example, if you have sponsored 4 people, while three of them can stay under you directly, you have to spill the number 4 to one of the three people under you.
The 3x9 can result in a total of 29,523 people or $29,523 if all of them renews every month.

Commissions aside, I do find that Empowerism has many good training resources. This include basic(rather extended actually) html training, enough to help you design a web page. It also provides website templates, search engine submission every month up to 10 URLs (perhaps I should submit my pluginprofit affiliate URL). It teaches you how to do splash pages, banners in html. It has SEO tools which include 24 wonderful tools, some of them as follow:

1 Keyword-Rich Domain Suggestions
2.Meta Tag Generator
3 Similar Page Checker
4.Link Popularity Check
5 Goolge Page Rank
6 Domain Age Tool
7 Keyword Suggestion Tool
8 Check Back Links

I think I may come back to do a lot of my research here.

Empowerism has some unique values that other programs do not feature. It provides some training where PlugInProfit is missing. The html training is one example. Also, as a paid member, every month you get 50 leads (That's why I had 100 sitting in my account waiting to be downloaded.), which is a nice feature. There are 10 follow up letters already written. You only need to replicate it into your new autoreponder account (paid separately). I will go into it in another post. Whether the leads are fresh and high quality as purported to be, I'll have to wait and see.

Submitting My Article - Manual vs. Automatic

I have written my first article and wanted to submit it. Should I do it manually or use an article submitter software. I consulted the past posts at the Warrior Forum inside and got suggestions of both. So I wanted to try both methods.

1)The Manual Approach
I needed to get a list of sites to submit to first. I got this information from Stone's 30 Days to Success guide. However, I knew I could probably handle a few submissions only; so I should really submit to the better sites. How do I know which sites are good? I searched on Google for high PR sites and found http://www.smartpagerank.com/. They assign a cash value to the composite of traffic, years in business, etc. to each site. After tediously plugged in quite a few sites on the list, the winners emerged:

1-http://www.addme.com/ - $2,100,322
2-http://www.findarticles.com/ - $2,083,314
3-http://www.ezinearticles.com/ - $471,878
4-http://www.webpronews.com/ - $361,405
5-http://www.isnare.com/ - $359,533
6-http://www.articlesfactory.com/- -$248,853
7-http://www.submityourarticle.com/ - $181,254
8-http://www.goarticles.com/ - $157,413
9-http://www.warriorforum.com/ - $103,852
10-http://www.mainstreetmom.com/ - $67,960
11-http://www.ideamarketers.com/ - $58,018

Numbers 1 and 2 do not seem to invite article submission on their sites. No. 4 seems very newsy. I managed to submit to Nos. 3 and 5. Ezinearticles is very strict with affiliate links; they don't allow any, even if I mask it with an html file. So I couldn't really promote Stone's sales page. I put it in for Isnare, though. I will wait for a few days to see if they post my article. It didn't take too long. But setting up an account with each directory, putting in a summary, providing a resouce box, more editing just before the submission took quite some time. I wanted to submit to the rest of the sites as well but ran out of time.

2) The Software Approach
I looked online for a freeware. It wasn't a smooth experience.

The first one I downloaded had over 200 directories to submit to. Only a small portion of the directories inbuilt had a PR of 6. Everything else was below it. Right away, I wasn't too impressed. The software design was not intuitive. What made me lose hope on it was that I couldn't change my password after I had already created an author account. I decided to delete the whole thing.

My second try was actually a trick played on whoever downloads it. It was an animated book opening telling you that this was not what you would expect, but if you still wanted it, you had to go to a certain site to purchase it. This turned me off right away. It was a bad marketing decision.

My third try was Artemis Lite. I remembered reading good comments about it. So I gave it a try. I spent some time formatting my article into the notepad format with each line not longer than 60 characters. What a pain to do that. I also had to create separate resource files. Then I hit the submit button. It kicked off and continued past my bedtime. I gave up waiting. When I checked the following morning, it took more than an hour! However, according to the log, some 4000 sites were contacted and 470 actual submissions were made. That was pretty good. But I have no way of verifying the result. There were no email in my inbox from the sites confirming the submission. Did everything go well? I'm completely sure at this point.

I think a mixed approach is probably a good way to go about it. For high quality articles, we want to manually submit to high PR sites. A couple of them (or maybe more) would suffice. For lighter weight articles, use the submitter to try to get more one-way back link to my site.

Setting Up An Article Directory

I set up an artcile directory on my website today! It feels like quite an achievement considering the confusions and trial and errors I had to go through setting this up.

In Day 15 of the 30 Day to Sucess guide, Stone Evans recommends setting up an articel directory on your own website. The reason is that you want to set the stage for building traffic in the future. An article directory will serve as a resource for people seeking certain information. It can also take other people's article submissions to build on its resources. The process will help you build your link popularity, which in turn boosts your search engine rankings.

This obviously is a must do. Since I just finished writing an article myself. I wanted to try to put it in my article directoy, that is, after I figure out how to set one up.

The 30 Day to Success guide recommends Article Dashboard, which is free. So I went for it. I downloaded all the files, and then uplaoded them manually onto the hosting server ( I probably should have looked around for an FTP client with the Host. Oh well).

I am not a technical person. The setup in the hosting account for my website still feels rather new to me. Partly as a result of this, I didn't think of creating a subdirectory for all of Article Dashboard's files. They were all loaded in the root directory. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to move them to a new directory (It looks like that I will have to delete all relevant files and start over). So I let it be that way.

Then comes the question of how I can make my article directory seen from my homepage. I had thought (naively) that after I uploaded all the files, a button for articles will automatically appear on my website. I was wrong. I had to put in some code to my index.html myself to add the button and the link. How do I know what code to put in? I hardly know html. Then I thought of checking a fellow pipster's website for his/her article directory's setup. I was able to identify a few lines of code from the View-Source menu option on the webpage to get the code. I did replace the URL with my own and added in my index.html file.

Something was not working right. I got the button, but it doesn't say "Article". Instead, it has a tiny cross in red, indicating a missing element. The link didn't bring me to the directory, either. I was lost. I checked the support forum at Article Dashboard; but even the anwsers there were too technical for me.

I posted a message at the pluginprofit forum asking for help. This was also my first post in the forum.

While I waited for a reply from the pluginprofit forum, I continued playing around. I figured that maybe my path for the link wasn't deep enough; I probably should have listed the file to pull. Although this was not apparent from the code I copied over from the fellow pipster's site, I decided to add the file to the path. Not knowing which file to pull, intuitively, I decided to pull the index.php. It worked! I was able to click the button on my website for articles and got to the directory page. I then was able to become a member of my directory and submitted my article to it.

My article directory is far from installation completion, though. I need to find the article image, as mentioned before. I also need to know how to customize the directory title. The files are in php, which is not at all intuitive. I also need to put in the guidelines for submission, terms and conditions and other admin stuff. I don't know where to get them yet. I'm sure I'll find them.

Why Should You Consider A Home Based Business with Residual Income

Why Should You Consider A Home Based Business with Residual Income
Copyright © X. Hong Ying
http://www.homebizonlinethatworks.com/

What is residual income? Simply put, residual income (alias, passive income) is income earned on an ongoing basis for effort done once in the past. A home based business that generates residual income typically involves plenty of Internet marketing to promote affiliate programs. Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing partnership between a web merchant and one or more affiliates. The affiliate is paid a commission for completing sales or referring leads to the merchant. The advantage to the affiliate is that he does not need to have his own product or inventory, nor does he need to worry about e-commerce, bookkeeping, or even customer support as these responsibilities still rest with the merchant. Once the affiliate has built his own team of downlines, he typically will get a commission for the sales and leads his downlines make, hence residual income.

Why should you consider starting a home based business promoting affiliate programs? Here's why:

1) A home based business with affiliate marketing offers enormous potential of residual income.
We can all appreciate some extra money to use, whether to subsidize paying the bills, make expensive purchases, support hobbies, vacation, provide for the family, provide for retirement, or just for altruistic purposes. Affiliate marketing can help you reach all those goals. Depending on the size of your goal, you can keep adding to your streams of income until your goal materializes. It is not a myth that residual income through multiple affiliate programs has made millionaires out of ordinary people. This kind of income potential just does not exist with a regular job.

2) A home based business with residual income means freedom.
First, you are free of your boss. Being your own boss can give a whole new meaning to your life and career. At the minimum, it will give you natural motivation and a heightened sense of fulfillment. After all, wouldn't you want to prove to yourself, if not the world, that you can live and prosper without being at the mercy of any employer? Second, working for your own business means complete flexibility with regards to location and time. No more sitting in the traffic during rush hours, not to mention helping with the relief of the energy crunch by sparing the gas (the monetary saving is good, too) and causing less carbon emission. Third, you will have the complete freedom to choose how much or how little to work, and you can change your mind when you want. In other words, you are free to act upon your free will.

3) A home based business via affiliate marketing means more for family and friends.
Affiliate marketing may require more time commitment initially, as would be the case in starting anything new, but less effort later. You will undoubtedly have more time for your kids and loved ones. You will have more resources to help your communities, too. Your affiliate marketing skills can be passed on to your kids with much more ease than if you were to help them pass the CPA exams. They can in turn be on their way to financial freedom and choose the kind of life they want to live.

4) Home based affiliate marketing has a strong future.
Someone said that affiliate marketing is the job of the future that is happening today. What this is capturing is really the power of the Internet. The Internet has provided a platform for people all over the world to come together and communicate. Affiliate marketing caters to the Internet communities by facilitating the sharing of the information. Intuitively, as the Internet grows, the need for affiliate marketing will also grow, and it may well become the norm of a job in the future. In light of this big picture, it may be to your advantage to get a head start now before it becomes too competitive. (It is already competitive in some segments.)

5) It's not rocket science, and you can do it.
It is easy to get started in affiliate marketing. Many merchant programs are free to join. Some also pay handsome commissions. However, free does not always mean the best. It is more important that you start in a program with solid training and support. Also, as you get into affiliate marketing more, you will see that rewarding involvement will usually require some investments, though you should be able to choose when and how much to spend.

There will be a lot of new things to learn and recommended steps to take initially. Stay focused. It does not matter if you don't do everything recommended or do things out of the recommended order. The roads to success are varied; but in all cases, taking actions consistently and persistently will bring you closer to your goals.

Can't afford the time commitment? Not a problem. Many people start out on a part-time basis and gradually build enough business to replace their offline income. That said, it's not compulsory to give up your regular job. One great thing about home based affiliate marketing opportunities is that you don't have to risk losing the income from your 9-5 job if you don't want to.

In short, home based affiliate marketing business will bring you huge potential of residual income. It is not rocket science, and you can do it. And if you can do it, why pass it up? Read up about it and get your feet wet. You may really enjoy the freedom it affords you.

PlugIn4Profit -The 49 Training Videos for Newbies

I logged into my website hosting account with Host4Profit for the first time over the past 2 days and found that I needed to learn some html in order to customize my website, or just to understand how it was put together. Where do I even start?

I thought of the Warrior Forum, which I had visited quite a few times and found it quite helpful. I did a search on "Basic html". A few threads came back, one of which recommended to watch the newbie training videos for PlugIn4Profit members. I realized that even I had read through the 30 Day to Success guide, my effort to check out all the free resources available was far from being over.

The newbie training video series comes with the PlugIn4Profit package. It consists of 49 episodes covering a wide range of topics from choosing a domain name to setting up a POP email account, from starting your own ezine to website optimization for search engines, from methods to promote affiliate programs to how to write your own ebook, etc. It covers indeed many facets of affiliate marketing.

The parts I focused on concerned the basic html training. There are 7 episodes dedicated to html training, each is 7-20 minutes long. Each episode has concise and clear step by step instructions on the basic structure of html with coding exercises demonstrated. I found it super helpful. By the end of the 7 espisodes, I had enough information to go into my web index.html, changed my web title as well as adding a bunch of keywords to the meta name for keywords. Of course, I later read that too many keywords may not necessarily help. Regardless, I felt I was given a good introduction to html.

If you are interested, check out for yourself the list of topics covered in the 49 videos as well as some sample episodes on html at this link:
